I am not sure whether this questions belongs to this forum or some other forum.

I have 2 LPARS, say 1S and 2S

On IS I have - a QM and WAS installed on it.
On 2S I have - WMB v7 and one QM installed on it.

I want to swap WMB & WAS from one LPAR to other.

Can someone suggest an easy way of doing it. I would not be doing it myself but the admin is. I just want to get some information about it so I can question on their estimates.

Reason for this swap is - on 2S lpar we have IMS facility that runs.. and we want to move WMB to an LPAR that doesn't have IMS.

Key questions here are -

1. Can we swap 2 QM on LPARs..?
2. Or Can we swap queues between 2 QM?

I believe for WAS & WMB we have to do a separate new installation and then discarding existing one.. or they can be swapped as well..?

One more question - Does it takes similar effort to upgrade WMB 6.1 to WMB v7 on a LPAR vs Installing a new WMB v7 on one LPAR?

Assuming you mean LPAR in the z/OS sense of the word:

Depending on how the DASD is organized and available between the LPARs the queue managers' data sets could be moved. Failing that it's restoring backups.

Queues cannot be swapped between queue managers any more than they can on distributed.

The software may not may not be swapable depending on how the DASD is shared. Even if they can you'll need to make the relevant changes to SYS1.PARMLIB & so forth so your sys progs will treat it as an install.

The queue manager's task JCL should be reusable.

It takes the same effort to install WMBv7 as it does to upgrade WMBv6.1 to WMBv7 because on z/OS you don't upgrade software, you install new versions. There's no reason (on z/OS) that you can't run WMB/WMQ v6.1/v7 simultaneously.

Thanks Vitor.

Yes I am talking in z/OS terms.

Is there a way we can swap queues - May be like taking a backup from 1st and 2nd lpar and then restoring 1st's back onto 2nd lpar and visa-versa.

I will check on the DASD organization to check on the option of swapping Queue Managers.

No; queues belong to a queue manager like they do on distributed. You can copy the contents of the queues in the same way you can in distributed.[/u]
