Hi All,
we are installing WMQ 7.0.1 with FP7 in a nightly installation and unfortunately the fixpack installation takes a long time (about 20 minutes).
We install the fixpack by calling

Is it possible to speed up the installation, e.g. by reducing the log level for the installation log?

| Being honest, there isnt any way to speed it up much - The command you run expands the source and then does the install, and you could consider separating those out but it wont buy you much. The fix pack installation processes isnt one of my favourite areas - its horrendously slow. I know it doesnt help but it should be slightly quicker in v7.1. |

The problem is that our installation procedure is divided into 3 parts which are all optional. So we install the Server and/or MQExplorer and/or Client. That all depends on what the user selects. To always have a consistent state we install for each part the base installation and the fixpack installation. So only the MQ fixpack installation takes about an hour. It's clear that we could install the fixpack once at the end but that's not our concept.
Don't ask why we do the installation in this way - that's simply the current procedure and btw. the same installation on Linux runs within few minutes ...

| Yes - I looked closely at what the fixpack does during the 7.1 cycle, and its horrible and inefficient... However without a redesign, there's no real way to speed it up massively. As I said, there are some improvements that were made at the product level, which wont help you now but will in the future, but there's nothing as a user of the process that you can do to speed things up. |

Software upgrades are slow on all platforms - including z/OS, where hardware is abundant. Speed is a secondary consideration to accuracy and completeness.
