Hi

We're using WMB 7.0.0.3 (just this week upgraded to 3 from 7.0.0.2), IBM ClearCase, IBM ClearQuest, IBM BuildForge.

Typical workflow is, defect is created, assigned to a developer, developer checks files out, fixes defect, checks files in, marks defect "Ready for Review."

A manager looks at the defect using ClearQuest, which invokes automatically ClearCase's Diff Merge utility to compare the present version of the source code file with a previous version of the source file, then manager decides whether or not to approve the defect resolution in ClearQuest, if manager approves, manager marks the defect "Ready For Build".

Lately, on some of our more involved ESQL files of around 1,500 lines or so, we started getting the error from the Diff Merge utility:

Quote:
An error in cleardiffmrg has occurred. This may have resulted from the use of vertical tabs or a line of text that is too long and exceeds the functional limits of the cleardiffmrg tool. If this is an XML file, use the CML Diff Merge tool instead. Doing the Diff Merge from the command line is also an option.

The manager reviewing my code is asking me to fix this problem so he can move my defect to Test environment throught the "Ready for Buiild" command. Manager does not want to use command line, manager wants the tool to operate just like it always has to this point, which is a semi-automatic operation from ClearQuest that invokes the Diff Merge utility and lets the manager decide whether or not to accept the code changes.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

I tried recreating the ESQL file from scratch using notepad.exe, still same result.

So far, only one ESQL file has shown this behavior. Other ESQL files are reviewable and approvable as described.

Did you check the ESQL file for vertical tabs?

Did you check to see if the ESQL file somehow had Unix line endings instead of Windows line-endings, or was somehow checked into ClearCase or marked as binary data rather than text data?

Hi mqjeff,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The ESQL file size is 80,120 bytes. Eclipse properties says it has inherited the default text file encoding code page of Cp1252.

In an attempt to troubleshoot the problem, the file was recreated with Windows notepad.exe to avoid any problems with Unix to PC conversion, if that was an issue. No change.

I may try to cut&paste line-by-line to see if that helps. Also, will look for vertical tabs in Textpad when I can get to that system.

We're using the same level of Toolkit (v7.0.0.3) and also use ClearCase/Quest.

We don't use any automation to perform diffs though, just pull up the CC version tree and choose the two versions to perform diff against.
