Yes, I know this is all in the documentation somewhere, but can anyone who has the answer just tell me if the following will or will not work with a Windows 7 desktop?

WMQ 7.0.1.7 (full QM)
WMQ 7.1 (full QM)

WMB 6.0.0.10
WMB 6.1.0.8
WMB 7.0.0.3
WMB 8.0.0.0

For the WMBs - is the answer applicable to just the toolkit, or just the runtime or both? With WMB 6.x I am using DB/2 as the database.

At present I have all these installed on XP - I have been "threatened" with Windows 7 replacement and want to know the issues.

It would probably be sufficient for the WMB 6 installs to become toolkit only (so I can forget DB2 - hooray!).

I've had the following running on 64bit Win7 Ultimate:
WMQ 7.0.1.x
WMQ 7.1
WMB 7.0.0.2
WMB 8

Never tried 6.x versions of both products as not explicitly supported.

I believe that there specific patch levels of WMQ required for the broker.

ash.

There is an issue with MQExplorer with 64-bit Win 7 Professional. If you open the properties of any object, you cannot see the properties. You can switch between tabs but the only things you see are the tab title and Apply, Cancel and OK buttons. The data fields are not visible.

This issue has been discussed on this forum but I have not found any solution. I have this issue with MQ 7.0.1.6. The fix list of 7.0.1.7 does not seem to contain a fix for it.

The cause of the problem seems to be that my workstation is standalone, also does not belong to any Windows domain.

Can't say that I recall seeing that "feature", but then I'm usually using cmdline/runmqsc or RFHUtil.

Thanks. Maybe I'll get a "virtual" Win7 desktop to experiment with.

Any other experiences welcome.

Neither WMB 6 nor WMB 6.1 will run under Windows 7 natively. I run WMB 6.1 under vmware workstation within Windows 7. For free alternatives, you could run WMB 6.1 under VirtualBox or VMWarePlayer.

Hope that helps.

Works fine here (7.0.1.7 is installed, but I dont think its necessarily relevant)... I am not aware of this as a reported problem either

There is the MS only solution. If you are lucky to have the right versions of Windows 7 then your can get virtualPC and run an XP VM under it for NO CHARGE. This is XP mode. It is a full VM of XP running under Windows 7.

Obviously, this is only a solution for development. I'm sure that someone from IBM will be along with an official statememt about using 'XP Mode'. However, as it is a full VM of XP I can't see any difference to running a VM with virtualBox or VMWare as the VM tool.

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.

If I get Windows 7 - it will be a virtual desktop - accessed by a small appliance.

So I am not sure I can run another virtual machine inside what is already a virtual machine.

As this little problem of mine does not seem to have much to do with zpats original request I opened a new thread under General WMQ Support and put there what I found in MQExplorer log.

zpat I did have the 6.0.0.x toolkit loaded on my windows 7 machine concurrently with V7.0.0.2 and it even seems to work (sort of...) but I don't believe it lets me create/refresh bar files... (those I still create on the old XP machine).
The V6 toolkit ran in compatibility mode XP SP3.

Anyway we are doing away with 6.0 this month and it hasn't been active for the last 2 (used as potential backup).
