and I'm trying to find out whether its feasible, possible, or not

Have you taken the IBM-provided WM663 training class? If yes, when and where? If no, why not?

So all the links you posted about Atom reference either Business Monitor or WSRR.

Both these two entirely separate products may possibly exchange information with Message Broker.

But Broker itself does not emit any monitoring data that is in MIME format, nor using REST apis nor using ATOM formatted messages.

It's easy enough to write something that will receive the broker monitoring data and re-emit it in any format you want.

But none of that has to do with what the contents of the monitoring data is, nor how to receive that data, nor how to interpret that data to produce information about events or situations that need to be reacted to.

All of the information about what, where and how broker emits monitoring information is clearly labeled in the Broker information center.

And the Broker information center is the very first place that anyone who is new to broker should be spending all their time reading.

It's a waste of time to ask questions here until you have read the relevant sections of the information center at least twice.

mqjeff - all the points you made are very valid. In my posts that reference WBM and WSRR, I am addressing the larger goal of the OP to monitor and cost broker transactions. Some off-the-shelf tools like WBM and WSRR could be used in such a venture. It seems the OP does not yet have an appreciation for the existing tools available.

Thanks for the reply, but I have to build a monitoring software that monitors message broker.

could you please provide me with a reference to start with?
another small question: is it possible to do the monitoring with perl?

There are already softwares available from several vendors, Qpasa broker extension from BMC, Wily. These software use the same concepts of getting the metrics from IBM provided utilities for message broker. I used to run the flowstats and publish the messages to a queue and graphically represent them in excel. I even automated them through perl. so yes there are options to do this.

Qpasa is a complete monitoring solution in its own right, and not just for Broker. It also costs an 'arm and two legs'. It can be more expensive than broker!

If you have some nifty perl you'd like to share with us I'm sure it would be put to good use.

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions.

So can WebSphere Business Monitor, I think.

I would not blame the OP. It's not the assignees fault if the task is silly. What is silly, it is to put a beginner to do it.

In fact, I think an own solution based on WMB monitoring may even be a good idea in cases where WBM or equivalent product would be an overkill. Besides, I know several customers that could be tempted to get a little - even a slightly square - wheel reinvented in India just to be able to cut license costs.

Some new proverbs you can memorize and cite at Christmas dinner:

"Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets. Because of all the patents you'll have to circumvent to avoid paying the license fees."

"Every time you reinvent the wheel you feel good."

Depends really on how you look at it... and which version of the broker you are using...

I doubt that the BMC (ex QPasa) monitoring will be more expensive than the broker enterprise version...

Remember you cannot compare license fee (one time) to maintenance fee (yearly).
