Hi All
We are trying to write custom adapter which will enable us to connect to our internal product for Websphere Message Broker 7.
We came across WebSphere Adapter Toolkit which allows us to write JCA 1.5 based adapters. But looks like the custom adapters are designed and developed in Websphere Integration Developer using the Adapter Toolkit plugin and can be used within Websphere Process Server , WESB or WAS during runtime.
My questions are
1) At runtime , does Message Broker supports JCA based adapters considering that JCA requires a application server which is not present in broker?
2)Is is possible to develop custom adapters using the Adapter Toolkit in Broker instead of WID ?
3)For the adapters developed using Adapter Toolkit , is it possible to execute this in broker runtime ?
Any pointers to writing custom adapters in Broker would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

This link and the WMB toolkit provide samples of creating custom nodes.
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/library/techarticles/0504_belyavsky/0504_belyavsky.html
Essentially, custom nodes are C or Java developed functionality, integrate into toolkit visually, and integrate into the WMB runtime organically.
There are ground rules that must be followed in order for your custom node to work. For example, you have to perform certain error and type checking when certain events occur.
The product you are asking about is not related to message broker. The most direct route to developing custom nodes for message broker is through the sample code provided inside the toolkit help. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Our product can have 100s of Business Objects (xsd) and the adapter needs to pick up certain message types only from a event db table or jms queue.
There are also APIs provided to connect to our product and we want tp package a adapter so that our clients can use it with our product & message broker.
Custom node will allow us to connect but not allow us to work with the application specific business objects (xsd).
So does it mean that WAT is not supported on broker design and runtime ?
Thanks

WebSphere Technology Adapters are a category of tooling. WebSphere Application Adapters for SAP, Siebel, PeopleSoft, come bundled with WebSphere ESB, WebSphere Process Server, and WebSphere Information Developer. This does not entitle the user to deploy them to a runtime environment without a license.
Starting with WebSphere Message Broker 6.1, the Application Adapters are packaged with the WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit and show up on the palette as Broker nodes. WebSphere Technology Adapters do not come with WMB and do not work with WMB. WMB comes with a set of nodes that provide equivalent function and no additional cost is required.
If you are looking for a magic way to have a codeless solution, it won't happen. Have your developers taken the WM663 class? _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

Sorry for the late reply , I am back from year end holidays.
Yes, we did take the ZM663 course. We could see that the SAP/Siebel adapters are based on jca 1.5 and run using the foundation classes.
Also there is a twineball sample , which is built on the same principle. So I assumed, that we can build an custom adapter using the WebSphere Adapter Toolkit and run it on Message Broker.
We are now evaluating the custom nodes feature.
Thanks
