If you want to do pub/sub with MQ, you'll need to have a broker installed. With WAS 5, a stripped down version of (WMQ and) WMQ Event Broker is supplied with the embedded JMS. You could also install one of the other broker products instead.

As far as performance is concerned, the current WMQ Event Broker product is also referred to as the high-speed pub/sub engine. It has a direct ip connection to help its performance.

Hope this helps.

The Event Broker engine is an optimized version of the WMQI(MQSI) pub/sub engine.

If you don't have WAS5, then MQSI (and hopefully you have 2.1, which is really WMQI) is going to be the better performer.

I don't know how the WAS 5 event broker pub/sub engine compares in performance to a full Event Broker or WMQI.

If you are using MQSeries 5.1, my first advice would be to move to a later (and supported) version of the product. I'm not sure what kinds of problems that you may encounter getting MQ 5.1 to work with WAS 4.
