Hi all,
New here but I searched for a topic and couldn't find this addressed elsewhere.
I am trying to install WMB on new hardware and running into an oddball error that I can't figure out:
First, here's the error message in full:
[I'm going to have to post the error message in the following reply because the forum won't let me post a URL until I have a post. I guess it's reading all the dots in the error message and assuming they're male enhancement websites.]
The box is 64-bit Windows 7. I am installing through the launchpad but toolkit installs using the installation manager so I've tried just running it independently and running both as an administrator and in compatibility mode (Windows XP Service Pack 3). It always errors out at the same place with the same error and the install fails.
I'm the new guy on the team (part of the reason I'm installing on everyone's new machines) but I've already run this by all of the old hands and they're stumped.
Tried talking to our corporate Help Desk and they told me Broker couldn't be installed on a 64-bit machine, which is BS becase we have 3 such devices running Broker just fine already.
It's seems like it might be a permissions problem that might have something to how Windows 7 uses ProgramData as the new Local Settings (if I'm remembering that right).
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has seen this or might have an idea. I think we're going to try and get a LAN admin or some other superuser to try and run the install before we open a PMR on it. Just trying to think of all the ways I can cover all my bases before calling IBM.
Thanks, |

Okay, here's the error message body in full.

Error during "install" phase:
Can not create shortcut file "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\IBM WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit\IBM WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit 7.0\WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit 7.0.lnk" for "C:\IBM\WMBT700\mb.exe". Before re-installing the product verify that a valid shortcut file can be created at this location.

I found all sorts of problems running through launchpad so did the following
made sure i had local admin rights
downloaded the latest IBM install manager think its 1.4.4
installed toolkit through the IM and associated fixpacks
Create your own shortcut by going to install directory and right click create shortcu on the mb.exe

I had a different problem with Toolkit on 64-bit Windows 7, but resolved it much the same way. The IM kept choking on me, so downloaded IM 1.4.4, installed that and then Toolkit. Worked like a charm.
Are you using a domain id or one on the local machine? Is it a member of the local Administrators group, or have evalvated admin rights via the domain? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Yep, my collegue just did this and it worked great. I was just coming to update the thread and log this for posterity. Thanks for the speedy updates!
In the spirit of sticking my thumb in Einstien's eye: I tried doing the install on another computer (I already had MQ and Broker installed on computer #1 so I figured I could at least get computer #2 that far) and the entire install went off without a hitch. So much for insanity being defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. |

Insanity is now defined as doing the same thing on different Windoze machines and expecting the same results.
