the trout comes from some statements by SAFraser early on, in which she mentioned the use of fish in the discussion of how to properly discipline users who always blamed MQ first.

Later extended from the original concept where sharpened trout could be used in more, well, extreme situations. Now reincarnated in the "big fish" currently gracing my signature.
