Hi-

I'm completely new to MQ and have a couple questions I was hoping I could get some help on.

1.
====
I'll be using .NET and the MQ Classes for .NET from IBM. What is required to develop locally on your development machine besides these classes? I have access to an MQ V5.3 server, but is there a client piece I need to install? I assume so since the ma7p.msi installation wouldn't even install.

2.
====
Where can I find documentation on using the MQ classes for .NET and perhaps some sample code? I searched the IBM MQ site, but didn't have any luck.

Thanks!

1. You only need to install the MQSeries client if you plan on using client bindings in your application to connect to a queue manager. If you want to connect directly to the queue manager (server bindings) you don't need any additional software, however, it requires that your application runs on the same physical machine as a queue manager.

2. See this thread:

There is a link in the first post, where you can get documentation and samples thanks to Neil Kolban...

Also, use the search tool on this site and type ".NET" as your search term. You should find a lot of information.

Thanks Brandon for the clarification.

On the .NET classes though, I did find a thread here from (name?) someone from IBM MQ, that had a link to IBM's site for a ma7P.msi download which I believe is Neil Kolban's code now being supported by IBM?

I assume I should be using this code as opposed to what's on kolban.com/mq/dotnet? I also found several C# and VB.NET examples on Roger Lacroix's site.

This has been a huge boost in getting up to speed with MQ and .NET.

Yes, you should use the official support pac from IBM... Neil's stuff may or may not be identical, you'll have to ask him...
