I want to install MQ7.0 trial version on Linux/ UNIX for learning.
As per the system requirements, it installs on AIX/ HP-UX/ Linux for system p/x/z / Solaris. All these systems are to be purchased.
Does any of these OS/ hardware are free? As AIX/ HP/ Solaris is to be bought and System x/p/z are not free as well though Red Hat Linux is free.
Please advise me. I want to install MQ UNIX/ Linux systems, basically other than Windows for practice.
Regards,
Shri |

Go ahead and download open source Unix and install the MQ7 and experiment.

Thanks for the reply!
Can you please specify the prefered open Unix OS on which MQ 7 can run? Which MQ 7 to be downloaded for this open UNIX OS?
Are there hardware constraints like only certain processor?
As for windows it needs dual core processors for certain versions. |

Why not use the free Virtual Box (from Sun/Oracle) which runs under Windows, then install the free CentOS (RHEL by another name) and then the Linux WMQ trial.
That is, if you have an adversion to using a WMQ windows trial. |

MQ 7 for System x Linux platforms (aka 32-bit or 64 bit Intel X86 running RHEL or SLES) has been known to run on Ubuntu Linux, but AFAIK Ubuntu is not officially supported by IBM.
AFAIK, there are no processor constraints, although you must purchase a license for the number of CPU cores that MQ will run in.
Refer to http://www.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/requirements/ _________________ Glenn |

If you look at the page System Requirements for WebSphere MQ V7.0/7.0.1 on Linux for System x (64-bit) at:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27011926
you will find.:
IBM wrote: |
Hardware requirements
AMD64, EM64T, and compatible processors - any hardware that is explicitly compatible and fully capable of running the specified operating system, all the corresponding supporting software shown below, and any associated applications unmodified. |
So you do not need to have actual IBM System x hardware. _________________ --
