Hi,

I'm running WebsphereMQ 7.0.1. I have several sender channels that stay RUNNING for a while and then go INACTIVE. I want these to stay RUNNING all the time. On the Properties for the Queue Manager, I went to the TCP section and set "TCP keepalive" = YES.

Can you tell me what else I may be missing?

Many thanks!

You're missing a compelling reason to keep them running all the time.

You're also missing a review of the properties of Sender channels.

I'm looking at the properties now.

This version is new for me. We were running on v5.3 and the channels were always running. Not saying that' correct - but it's what I'm used to seeing.

My concern is that the sender is inactive when a record hits the transmission queue and the message is not sent. Is this a valid concern?

I have very basic/little knowledge of MQ so forgive me if this is MQ 101.

Location: US: west coast, almost. Otherwise, enroute.

Briefly, RUNNING indicates that the channel is in the process of transmitting messages, OR that the channel believes that next time there are messages to send, that it will be able to do so.

Even though the channel state is RUNNING, for a variety of reasons, the next attempt to transmit messages might fail.

There has been much discussion as to what RUNNING actually means. You might want to search.

It is a bit MQ 101, but in general sender channels should be triggered by the channel initiator.

So when a message goes onto an xmitq, this should cause the channel to be started.
