There is so many way to set up a MQ cluster. I am trying to understand the benefits of the below configuration.

Gateway -- has a qalias ( not advertised in the cluster)

pointing to cluster qaliases on two broker servers.

Then on the two broker servers the cluster qalias points to the local queues( not advertised in the cluster)

is this the best way to set up a cluster for load balancing? The reason i am askin gis that i have seen this in two of the companies i have worked for.

trying to undersand the reason behind not advertising the qalias on gateway in the cluster also the qlias and the cluster qalias setup. does that give a level of segregation for the application so that it can be easily portable to a different environment?

Any other Dos and Dont's please share your thougths. thanks.

After reading and researching wmq clustering and load balancing, what have you discovered?

Why have you offered this configuration? Is this for a college computer science class?

The advertising, or not advertising, of a qmgr / cluster alias in a cluster has consequences as to the routing of the message using the qmgr / cluster alias.

One of the reasons to have them advertised on the gateways, and absent from the brokers, is so that the brokers are always load balanced... Other reasons may apply and your mileage may vary...
