What in the world is happening to IBM?

I find it disconcerting that now other Websphere product group is "blaming MQ" when their stuff breaks down. It is enough that whenever an MQ application breaks down the first accused is MQ.

We had a production outage with a WESB application and opened a ticket. When the rep called, the first thing she had us do is..

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg1IZ76343

It must be MQ that caused their ActivationSpec to not expect and positively react to normal occurrences like a channel going to retry state.

I speculate that IBM is losing MQ technicians by the armload because now they have to fend off blasphemous allegations from both customers and from within the shop.

So now instead of the Windows solution of "reboot your system" to fix your problem, it is "upgrade MQ" to fix your problem.

Right, so it's a complicated picture.

But the simple fact is that the Resource Adapter in question is actually built and shipped by the MQ team, not by WAS or WESB.

So... when there is an issue with it - and presumably the specs in question say that this IS an issue, that a RA should start up and allow apps to start up even if the end point is not available - then it does require a fix by the MQ team and does require an update to your MQ installation.

Elaborate MQJeff... I am interested... so when MQ was upgraded, it upgraded a component of WESB?

No...

It upgraded a piece of code that WESB makes use of.

If it was a piece of WESB, then WESB would have fixed it, not MQ.

Looking at that APAR, it is fixed in MQ 7.0.1.3. What level of MQ are you running in your WESB?

MVIC, we upgraded to v7.0.1.3 as directed.

MQJeff, I am just trying to learn from this. That is why I ask. What thing, probably in /opt/mqm/bin or /opt/mqm/java was upgraded when we applied the patch?

The Websphere MQ Resource Adapter code. That is used by WESB, and other JEE application servers.

Which particular set of jars in /opt/mqm/java were affected, I don't know...

I appreciate the answer.

Out of interest, did it fix the problem?
