we are looking for a secure method of making qmgr backups..

now we are making online file backup on our qmgr, but there are still open / new transactions while backup is running. so log and q-files will change during backup. We have problems by making the backup when the qmgr is down, cause message transport/ delivery to the other systems is time dependend.

We have linear log...

1. qmgr is running, no transaction
2. backup is started and come to data q-file (no messages held)
3. .. backup finished S0000001.LOG,
4. transcation begin, put 20 msg to q
qmgr logs in file S0000001.LOG and S0000003.LOG
5. backup finished S0000002.LOG
6. transaction finished
7. backup finished S0000003.LOG
8. backup finished fine, qmgr still running, 20 msg in q
9. crash, all disk data lost

--> recovery from backup-stream
--> Log is corrupted, because stream helds S0000001.LOG without
the transaction data completed in S0000003.LOG

no or not all 20 messages in q.

How to avoid this without an offline file backup?

thanks
beu

A starting point would be the Red Book: SG24-5222 MQSeries Backup and Recovery.

But, ASAIK, the only system that support 'fuzzy backups' is OS/390. On all others, the Queue Manager has to be stopped.

Cheers,

Thanks for information EddieA

But what about Cressida Technology’s ReQuest™? The marketing information on the web page says: We can access recovery logs while
qmgr is runnig.

Means this access on old no more needed logs after rcdmqimg or even the actual used active log files?

If they can access only the old one, timestamp recovery is supported past the image is taken?

Are there any 3rd party Tools else?

It means even the actual used active log files.
