My testing seems to show that QM generated reports (like COA + COD) have an expiry of Unlimited. This is set by the queue manager regardless of what the original message's expiry value was, and there is no way you can alter this behavior.

This is OK, but I can't find this documented in any of the manuals. Is this in fact true and behavior I can rely on?

According to the Application Programming Reference, report messages are given an Expiry of MQEI_UNLIMITED. There is a table in the section of the manual that discusses the Report field of the MQMD.
