Hi All,

We have a requirement to install MQ client and configure the SSL on Solaris local zone, when I have tried to to install on local zone but it's failed to complete the installation because it was not able to create the softlink between /opt and /usr because /usr folder doesn't have the write permissions from local zone's.

after all my google understand that we have to install the MQ client from Global zone using the -G option on pkgadd step which is like below.

pkgadd -G -d mqclient.img.

please correct is above commong is correct to install from Global Zone?

I have below few concerns on Pre-requsite's, could any one of you provide me if you are come across with this type installation.

1. /var/mqm and /opt/mqm is created and molunted on Global Zone or Local Zone or both?
2. user mqm id is created on Global Zone or Local Zone or both?
3.GSKit is to be installed on Global Zone or Local Zone or both?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You must install to the global zone. (The documentation speaks only about MQ server, but we've found the exact same procedure is required for client.) Next you either 1) install to the sparse zone & ignore the errors about /usr/bin or 2) inherit /opt/mqm and opt/IBM to the sparse zone.

Personally, I think inheritance is the way to go. Works great for us.

Yes, you must create the user & group in both global and sparse zone.

If you inherit /opt/mqm from the global zone, then you only need to create /var/mqm on the sparse zone.

We install both MQ and the GSKit in the global zone and let the sparse zone inherit both installation directories.

It's all a royal pain.
