Hi, I have general question in regards to best practices for hosting MQ queue managers.
Is it advisable or recommended to host multiple queue managers on single UNIX box ?
I ask this question because I've told from MQ administrators that it is industry/best practices to host only one queue manager per box - something I find rather odd.

One queue manager hosting 1000 queues will more often than not perform better than 10 QMs on the same server each hosting 100 queues each. There is performance overhead for each QM. Not to mention all the extra administrative overhead.
In most cases any reason to have your queues on separate Queue Managers is also enough reason to have your Queue Managers on separate servers too.
So in general, yes, one QM per server is usually the way to go, especially in Production. But there are cases, especially in test regions, where you might want to have more than one QM per server. But even there, in my experience, that is the exception rather than the rule. _________________ Peter Potkay

It really depends on a number of factors, most of them business related.
Isolation of applications, no single point of failure combined with access control in an MQ cluster etc...
It is best practice to rather create more queues on an existing qmgr than to create a new qmgr.
Have fun _________________ MQ & Broker admin |
