Hi,
We are planning to migrate from version 6.0 to Version 7.0.
Therefore ,we will bakup our /var/mqm and /opt/mqm

Then our UNIX system team is going to uninstall V6 + Install V7 like explained in IBM documentation.

Anything else to do?

We are running HP-UX B.11.23 U ia64

Thanks for help

What is the purpose of the backup of var/mqm?

How will you restore/recreate your object definitions?

How will you restore/recreate messages that were in queues?

If you've got any client applications statically linked with the v6 client libs you might want to re-link them. Certainly not a critical activity, and not strictly part of the upgrade from a certain point of view, but is clearly best practice and will allow you to leverage the new client facilities.

Answer > We have got a periodic backup of objects + authorizations
so we can easily recreate objects + auth

Backuping /var/mqm will give us flexibility if we have to restore to Version 6.0

Problem will be for messages not consumed.

I know there is a utility to export but not very handful.

Thanks ...

If SupportPac MA01, or a SupportPac of similar functionality, does not do that which you require then ensure it is an application responsibility to drain the queues. My attitude and approach is that if their messages are that important to them they'll remove them, and if they're not prepared to do that then they obviously don't care, so if messages 'disappear' don't come crying to me (I still back them up though!).

poulter90,

if possible:

- I would stop all incoming channels and all applications, which produce messages.

- Let the getting applications read all the messages from the queues.

Then:

- Stop QMgr before backup of /var/mqm

- Now uninstall V6 and install V7

Following my first steps you would have empty applications queue - and so no data to backup.
