The BSDS(Boot Strap Data Set) has a date/timestamp. The question is, at what time is this set and what sets it.
Is it when the active log is archived, or startup or......?
We had a situation of two BSDS datasets timestamps got out of sequence, we went through the procedures to synch the two back up. Now we are at the stage to try to figure how and why this was caused.
We are not sure if one was restored, but not the other one.
Thanks in Advance,
Ron Hand

I've faced the same problem, my reason was a failure in a ESCON-director, which caused one of my BSDS discs was lost for some seconds, and MQ just stopped......
After fixing it(copy the good BSDS highest RBA into the bad one) no problems up and fly again.
Just my $0.02 _________________ Regards, Jørgen

From the system admin guide :
Time stamps in the BSDS
SYSTEM TIMESTAMP
Reflects the date and time the BSDS was last updated. The BSDS time stamp can be updated when:
- MQSeries starts.
- The write threshold is reached during log write activities. Depending on the number of output buffers you have specified and the system activity rate, the BSDS can be updated several times a second, or could not be updated for several seconds, minutes, or even hours.
- MQSeries drops into a single BSDS mode from its normal dual BSDS mode due to an error. This can occur when a request to get, insert, point to, update, or delete a BSDS record is unsuccessful. When this error occurs, MQSeries updates the time stamp in the remaining BSDS to force a time stamp mismatch with the disabled BSDS.

Thanks to everyone, it appears our Dasd people had a problem with the Pack and restored one of the BSDS datasets but you guessed it not the other one.
