Anyone in MQ-Land (it's like TV-Land but with pocket protectors and coke-bottle glasses) see the premiere of the new Hawaii Five-0 series? Absolutely stunningly awesome.

I don't know where I am. But you wouldn't like it here.

The cast looks awfully pretty for trying to be a real cop drama.

Also, I suspect that we may have differing opinions on "awesome" tv.

Ok, some may not know about the history of this show, so I'll post a synopsis and then tell why I like it. In short, its a cross between Baywatch and CSI:Miami.

Hawaii Five-O is an American television series produced by CBS Productions, and set in Hawaii. The show originally aired for twelve seasons from 1968 to 1980, and continued in reruns. The show featured a fictional state police unit run by Detective Steve McGarrett, played by actor Jack Lord. The theme music composed by Morton Stevens became especially popular. Many episodes would end with McGarrett instructing his subordinate, Danny Williams (played by James MacArthur), to arrest the alleged offender(s) with the phrase: "Book 'em, Danno!" The CBS television network produced Hawaii Five-O, which aired from September 20, 1968 to April 4, 1980. Currently, the program is broadcast in syndication worldwide and via on-demand streaming media from CBS Interactive. Created by Leonard Freeman, Hawaii Five-O was shot on location in Honolulu, Hawaii, and throughout the island of Oahu as well as other Hawaiian islands — with occasional filming in other locales like Los Angeles, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Here is why I like the new Hawaii Five-0: Awesome rendition of the Hawaii Five-O franchise. Wonderfully faithful to the original story with its own unique flavor. Absolutely stunning visual effect and military-style action sequences that nail the Jack Lord vision. For those youngsters that did not grow up watching the Jack Lord episodes, Jack was dictatorily dogmatic in demanding top notch performances from the series' actors. This new show, albeit in its first season, has the potential to go the distance if the writers maintain the highest quality story lines that kept the interest of the original series for eleven seasons. Five stars, hands down. Well done to the production crew. Don't cut the production budget and keep the intro music as the authentic hallmark that it currently is. Kudos to the executive that rejected the first musical score and demanded the iconic Five-O theme music. Jack Lord would be proud. James MacArthur is proud. Oooooh-RAA.

I'll look some episodes up. From Wikipedia's write-up, I think I agree with your assessment.

Growing up and to this day, I am an avid follower of most of Stephen J. Cannel's works. "It takes a thief", Columbo, Adam-12, Rockford Files, and The Commish.

It sounds as if "The Wire" is similar to "The Commish". Thanks for the tip, Sonny!

No... not really.

This doesn't mean it's not a good show. If nothing else, it's caused Gov. Martin O'Malley to refuse to provide tax incentives for film & tv production, since he's still unhappy with his portrayal on this show when he was mayor.
