Hi,
We are using MQ 5.3 on as400 server ( os version is v5r4 ), MQ api's and other MQ related programs are written in COBOL language.
Currently we are planning to upgrade hardware on AS400 in which we are going to upgrade current version of OS into latest version of v6r1.
I need suggestion from you guys will our existing COBOL mq api programs ( either COBOL program ) work on v6r1?? plz provide your inputs.
Once hardware upgrade is done, we are planning to upgrade MQ version to 6 or 7 after couple of months.
Regards,

Obviously you'll be doing a regression test to ensure everything works with the new OS version, so this should pick up any issues.
IIRC there are no code differences between v53 & v61. All you should need to do is recompile / relink with the v61 material. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Hi Vitor,
We will be doing this within next month, before that I need to know will MQ53 support for V6R1.
Since we planned mq upgrade later on, I would be happy if MQ53 works on V6R1 till upgrade, thanks for your response. |

I don't see why a recompile is needed. The MQ upgrade will be transparent to the existing applications. |

Because they are talking about an OS upgrade, not an MQ upgrade. The MQ version will remain unsupported for a few more months by the sound of it. The question was will that unsupported MQ version work on a platform that it was never supported (and potentially never tested) on. |

OK, I don't see why an OS upgrade should require a program to be re-compiled or re-linked. |

I will make it simple; question is will MQ53 support for isereis os version v6r1. You might ask why don’t you go for MQ upgrade before OS upgrade, problem here is we need to upgrade OS first before MQ since current version of OS is not supporting for other application which is running in the same iseries box. |

Our i-Series people upgrade the OS and MQ levels at the same time, in fact they upgrade all the i-Series system software at the same time (I assume IBM provide an option for this to happen).
You asking whether MQ 5.3 will run with OS 61. The answer will surely be that it is not an IBM supported combination. Check the MQ 5.3 installation guide.
Whether it technically works is another matter. But do you really want to run on an unsupported combination? |
