I need to be able to delete a user from the Runtime -- I have heard about the "Mark for deletion" (In buildtime) but don't know exactly what to do. I tried issuing a "DELETE PERSON 'WENDY'" in the FDL using fmcibie and got this error message "DELETE cannot be performed for PERSON 'WENDY' The person is is manager" -- so while that worked for the other users, it is not working for this user.

I know how to delete the user in Buildtime, but apparently you are not suppose to just delete the user in Buildtime because it causes discrepancies between buildtime and runtime databases....

Please help!

I asked a question (on the wrong board) regarding this topic and Laze has been helping me out -- but just in case he doesn't know or isn't available I'll post this question to the correct board.

Hello,

I suppose your user "WENDY" must be the manager of an existing organization (let us call the organization "ORGT") you have created under he Staff tab.

Please, confirm this point.

If yes, you can not delete this user directly whithout deleting OR modifying the organisation concerned (i.e "ORGT").

2 possibilities :

1) If you want to keep the organisation "ORGT", change the manager of the organisation "ORGT" (the one "Wendy" was the manager of) with another user in your BT then mark for deletion your user "Wendy" in your BT.

OR

2) If you do not mind deleting your organisation "ORGT", you mark for deletion the organisation "ORGT" and mark for deletion the user "Wendy" (who is the manager of the organisation concerned) in your BT.

Choosing option 1) or 2), You export your FDL file from BT and import it into RT.
If it works well, you can then update your BT deleting the items who are marked for deletion (see below explanation).

Tell me if this works.

Concerning the point of "marking for deletion", as you said well, you are not supposed to directly "delete" the user in the BT, you have to "mark it for deletion" first and if the import in the RT works well, you can then delete it from the BT.

Linda:

fbaril3 is right.

The key thing to remember here, is that you cannot delete any object if it is pointed to by another object. For instance the same would be true of Wendy if she had and open workitem, was the PA of some Process. You cant deete a program if an activity refers to it etc....
