Does MQ use the server name or server IP address in its configuration or registry in any way?
I am migrating a QM from Windows 2000 (called SIN1234) to Windows 2K3 (currently called SIN1234-new).
I've created a QM on SIN1234-new. The server name and IP address of this server will change to that of SIN1234 once all my migration work is complete and both MQ configurations are identical.
Does MQ "hard-code" the server name or IP address in its registry? Will the QM fail to work once the server name and IP are changed back?
Directions to manual's, red books or old posts also appreciated. |

It will use the IP address or DNS name depending on how the configuration was done by the admin.

First 2 are in links at the top of this page, old posts via the search facility top right. You're looking for channel configuration. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

How are you migrating?
Are you exporting object definitions from the old qmgr with MS03 support pac? Are you copying the filesystem? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Thanks for the replies.
I've createde the same named QM on the new machine. I've run a saveqmgr on the original server and runmqsc'd it in. I've also copied the data from the various filesystems (to ensure adapters run correctly).
If its only the CONNAME in the channel definition that is affected, then I believe I will be ok.
Would you agree ? |

Exactly what data from which filesystem did you copy? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

We are running two different types of adapters. I've copied the configuration files and the source/log files. |

Which log files? WMQs logs files? Which ones?
When I used the word exactly, I meant for you to offer the names and filepaths, so I could answer your question with more accuracy. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

AFAIK, a queue manager does not have a clue as to the machine name, DNS name, or IP address of the place it is installed.
I think that was the OP's question. |
