we have MQ ver 5.3.0.6 in tandam HP NSK. we want to upgrade MQ as we face a lot of issues. Can any body provide the latest version for tandam NSK that is supported by IBM.
i have limited knowledge in gaurdian OS and gone through the installation document for tandam NSK. i understand multiple versions can reside in the server. Any tips for installation/upgradation are highly appreciated particularly from preparing the volumes/subvolumes.
Regards. |

The only place that can provide the latest version is the IBM website.
You need to check with your shop to find out how to access your site entitlement. This will allow you to do things like download the most recent version and open up PMRS when you have difficulties.
HPNSK/Tandem is a mainframe platform. It's not just another unix or windows box. You should be doing everything under the guidance of a more experienced person or you should tell your employers that they should expect things to go very very slowly. |

And you need to obtain it from IBM if you have a support agreement and entitlement. Tandem NSK is more a Mid-Range platform but not like unix - linux - windoze! The only thing that resembles UNIX is OSS and it's not a full unix compliant OS- You may also need a newer OS for HP NSK as there are some threading and port issues that HP has addressed. More info can be found on the Read-me with the fix pack as well as HP Knowledgebase!

Mainframe is somewhat misleading.
The traditional and generally well-understood meaning "mainframe" is IBM or 3rd party hardware that is capable of running the MVS, z/OS, z/VM, z/Linux or z/TPF, operating systems.
I will agree that NSK demands more sysadmin skills than the other midrange (Win/UNIX) platforms. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

I think you'd agree that the same hardware running VSE was also a mainframe.
My understanding, and mind you I've never actually used it, is that NSK is sufficiently more complicated than standard unix and required sufficiently more in the way of hardware and more in the way of procedural management to qualify as a mainframe.
It is also my understanding that NSK has always been marketed more as a mainframe than as a distributed platform.
But if hankknowles says it's a distributed platform, I'll take that as near enough a fact for me.
But I still wouldn't give someone who'd spent six weeks at a linux training class the keys to root. |
