6.1 was released years ago. We are nearing the one year anniversary of the release of 7.0.

End of Service for 6.0 was posted several months ago. 6.0 is already past it's End Of Marketing date, which means you can't buy it any more.

Don't bother with 6.1. Plan to move to 7.0. Start now.

EOS for WMB 6.0 is April 2011

Notwithstanding what Jeff has said, there is no EOS announced for WMB 6.1 yet, maintenance is still being provided.

WMB 7 has only just had it's first fixpack out. We have only just installed it for testing. It does require WMQ v7 as well, which in turn may require a higher fixpack for you on WMB 6.0.

Outside the lab - upgrades can take years to implement.

Yes. I agree.

That's why a) start NOW, b) SKIP a version, so that when the upgrade is COMPLETE in a year or so, you won't be BACKDATED again.

There is not currently an EOS for 6.1. I don't expect one soon, but I'd also hate to complete an upgrade just AFTER one was announced, or worse, expired!

As a general rule, WMB follows the "Enhanced IBM Support Lifecycle Policy", which states a minimum of five years of support from the GA date. After this time, you can purchase additional support for a further three years. (Because of this, it's often referred to as "5+3 support".)

For more info on this, see here: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/support/lifecycle/lc-policy.html
