We are discussing integrating AQ/OMG with MQ. In my very little undedrstanding, OMG and AQ are both oracle database components. When i tried to pull the doc from net and read it, could not come up with a clear idea about the difference between AQ and OMG. Have you guys done anything on this?

thanks

There's been some discussion of both in here over the years. A search may turn up some interesting stuff. Start with a search on "Oracle" and narrow it down.

Also post your link & which section's you're looking for clarification on

AQ is the oracle based messaging system (equivalent of MQ).
OMG is a gateway that allows you to bridge AQ and MQ.

Vitor,

I do not know muhc about AQ/OMG as such but I know one of them(OMG) acts a mq client and propogate the message between MQ and AQ.

Also, I do understand that for a connection to MQ qmgr the OMG need to provide
a) host
b) channel (svrconn)
c) port (the listener must be running!)
d) user / group name security setup for the user going to run the oracle gateway

But I am still getting confused because, I still could not conceptualise OMG/AQ.

Quote:

Because Messaging Gateway is integrated with Oracle Streams AQ and Oracle Database, it offers reliable message delivery. Messaging Gateway guarantees that messages are delivered once and only once between Oracle Streams AQ and non-Oracle messaging systems that support persistence. The PL/SQL interface provides an easy-to-learn administrative API, especially for developers already proficient in using Oracle Streams AQ.

Furthermore,

The Oracle Messaging Gateway (MGW) seamlessly extends the integration capabilities of Oracle Streams Advanced Queuing (AQ) to these existing non-Oracle messaging systems.

However, I still am not clear:

can both run on the same database?
can OMG be in one database server and AQ be in another database server
what tool do we /can we use to craete link in OMG and queues in AQ

Thanks

You can install OMG and AQ in the same DB.
You need to read the OMG manual. It is not that intuitive and easy to set up the gateway correctly.
Understanding AQ helps.

Have fun
