Hi,
We have 12 MQ production servers runs on distributed environment at various location.
My customer wants to virtualize these servers into 2 or 3 since they want to reduce maintenance cost. I am so confused to answer them since all MQ servers has MQ client connected to them.
Can you plz suggest how to proceed further, can this be done??
Thanks & Regards

This is very advanced application and system consulting, and that is only possible with excellent and deep knowledge of the customers environment, and there are people out here that make their living from that kind of consulting.
Did you really think you will get a solution here by providing that little information?
of course mq servers can be consolidated, but it always depends on the details. _________________ Regards, Butcher |

Virtualisation and consolidation are different subjects.
One point to note is that you can keep running the same number of queue managers on fewer hosts potentially, which saves license costs.
Usually the issues are applications that don't support client mode connection (or don't do it very well).
Or ones that need the ability to keep putting messages when the central queue manager may be down.
With very high volume messaging, performance may be an issue. |

Hello Butcher,
Here is the few details below,
We have 4 MQ server which runs on 5.3 version and 6 servers running on 6.0.
The problem here is all these servers are located in 8 different location.
I can consolidate servers which are in the same location but unfortunately all are located at different place. |

Why does location matter? Is the network slow? |

Virtualization and consolidation are very different subjects.
Virtualization usually means turning 10 servers running on separate physical hardware into 10 servers running on the same physical hardware.
Consolidation means taking 10 servers and turning them into 3, regardless of the hardware being used.
mpong - what aspects of VIRTUALIZATION as above do you believe has any effect on MQ? |

From 12 go to 2 or 3 sounded like consolidation for me. However, he may also virtualize them......... _________________ Regards, Butcher |
