Hi,
We have a couple of mq groups that use IQG. We have channels defined between the members of the individual groups. I have noticed that some of the channels are been kicked off thus I think that the size of the queue SYSTEM.QSG.TRANSMIT.QUEUE isn't big enough for the message.
1. Would I be right in thinking that?
2. How should I go about sizing SYSTEM.QSG.TRANSMIT.QUEUE? The developers don't always tell the truth about message sizes
3. If I increase the size of SYSTEM.QSG.TRANSMIT.QUEUE - I assume that I should also review my CF structures and what impact it has?
Any thoughts/comments greatly appreciated.

By this I assume that the channels are reporting an error that says that a message that was to large attempted to come through and was rejected?
Assuming defaults are still in place, 4mb is the max message length. Increasing that on a regular queue just requires issuing an ALTER command with the appropriate flags thrown.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you have several Queue Sharing Groups based off that statement? My sum experience with QSG's and related activities is non-existent, so I will leave any and all advice on that to others who are far more qualified than me.
If you increase max message length, it is always a good idea to revisit storage concerns, in my opinion. |

Exactly what error messages (in CHIN or MSTR) did you receive?
What did the WMQ Messages manual say to do to resolve the issue?
Yes, since the CF is not a virtual box, and storage is limited, sizing CF structures is mandatory.

I assume "being kicked off" means, that the channels are used instead of IGQ, and not channel errors.
yes, the IGQ agent will decide whether the message can be routed using IGQ or not. One criteria is the message length. If too big for IGQ, the "normal defined" channel is used.
from the manual:

Hi,
I wasn't clear in my posting. "Kicked off" means the channel started. I am not getttng errors as the channel is been started.
My goal is to have no channels between qmgrs in a queue sharing group because of all the benefits listed in the info centre.

I understand that when the messages is been sent if it is larger then the maximum message length of SYSTEM.QSG.TRANSMIT.QUEUE it will be sent by a channel rather then IGQ.
1. Is that correct understanding?
I don't know what the max size of my messages are
2. Is it a case of setting the maximum message length to be the largest and then keep reducing the length? or is there a clever tool out there?

even if you find out the maximum now, that may change later. why do not configure the maximum msglength possible?
