My first question would be why are they stacking that amount of data in WMQ, which is NOT a data store?

The Quick Beginnings manual for your platform provides the answer you seek, e.g. for AIX. Your logs are going to have to be big (or linear if you cannot size/have enough circular) and file size restrictions may need obviating, e.g. 2GB limit.

As a basic concept, and as well-documented in the WMQ System Administration manual, putting/getting persistent messages requires sufficient log (file) space, in addition to queue file space. How to calcualte the log space required is also documented in the manual.

20, 20,000 or 20 million messages, the calculation process remains the same.

Yes.

But I echo the comments of my associates. That's a lot of messages to try and manage (if the messages are of any size that might be more log than the queue manager can actually use!) and disc could easily be the least of your problems.

Now as it requires a huge storage space...

OK, so it requires more disk space... much, much more disk space.

If the project requires more disk space, the project needs to fund more disk space.

If your issue is one of disk performance (and that is questionable), then you can specify a different file system location for logs.

Your OP asks

Can we mount /var/mqm/qmgrs ...

Why? What issue are you concerned about?
