Hi !
I'm about to migrate a broker topologic WMB v 6.1 from WMQ v 6.0 to WMQ v 7.0.1.
Is there any recommendation whether to migrate Config Manager before Broker or first Broker and the Config Manager ? |

This must definitely be based on your organization's risk appetite.
There is no inter-dependency on what migration happens first as both CM and Brokers are essentially queue managers. MQ would just start talking to a QM on another level. |

Are you going to Broker V7? You don't say
If you are moving to V7 for both WMQ & WMB then do WMQ first after deleting the ConfigMgr.
If I were doing this, I'd probably delete the broker as well as you will want to do away with the Broker Database won't you?
Then after upgrading WMQ, I'd then run the scripts(after editing) to re-create the broker. You do have scripts to create your environment don't you?
Obviously, you have to backup everything first.
Give it a go and then come back to us with any issues unless you are doing this on PROD first. Then, you are on your own. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

( I have read the manual's for Migrating Pub/sub and see no problem in that ) |

Not related to the OP, but I wouldn't delete the ConfigMgr until you've completely migrated - in case you need to roll back. For a full WMB+WMQ migration I'd go with:
1) Migrate to MQ 7.0.1.
2) Install WMB 7.0 alongside your previous WMB version
3) Move each broker across to the new version (either by using mqsimigratecomponents or by creating mirrored brokers and redeploying)
4) When everything's migrated and tested, delete the CM, system databases and previous WMB version, if they're not being used by anything else. |

I haven't done the upgrade to WMB7, yet, but I think the provided migration commands allow for you to upgrade to WMB 7 without deleting the Broker, and after the migration you are free to remove the DB and the DB software used for the Broker's DB.
The migration commands move all the data from the Broker DB into the v7 Broker's file system. _________________ Peter Potkay
