Hello folks, I will be attending Impact 2010 and mostly watch MQ-related sessions.
Venetian prices are salty, as well Mirage´s. Since I am from 'below de Equator line', I was looking into Harrah´s or Treasure Island...
Any advicem which one is better? Treasure Island has a 20-dollar/day resort fee, is it worth?
I want to be as close as possible to the Venetian (where the conference will run), so if I feel tired I can leave the conference and take a nap in my hotel room, take a shower, etc... |

If you are limiting your choice to those 2 hotels, I'd go with Treasure Island. It's across the street (the Strip is not something you cross anytime or anywhere you like), but there is a pedestrian bridge right there. _________________ Peter Potkay

Any special reason to for TI? They have some sort of resort fee that adds extra 156.80 to the bill...
Harrah´s: 728.00 (tax included).
TI: 872.59 (tax and resort fee included).
Going from the TI to the Venetian walking makes the difference comparing to walking from he Harrah´s to the Venetian? |

I personally always like staying in the same hotel, I thought there was also a special rate for Impact or have you seen that already? _________________ Michael

The Venetin is really nice as far some work fellows did tell me. But they are asking the DOUBLE (~ 1600) Treasure Island is asking and more than that comparing to Harrah´s.
How are the walking distances? I have no idea...
...PeterPotkay said that walking from the Treasure Island to the Venetian is way better than doing the same from the Harrah´s...just wanted to know if its worth the 150 dollar diff.

Call the hotel directly. Ask what discount rates are available. Whatever rate they quote, ask for a lower rate. Tell them that your co-workers are staying at another hotel; but you would rather stay at your hotel. Sometimes there are rates that includes meals. Don't give up. _________________ I like deadlines. Well, I think you should stay in Four Season Hotel Las Vegas. Great quiet hotel in sin city. Perfect for business. And you can also enjoyed the nightlife in the attached Mandalay Bay! |

I didn't say its way better. From Harrah's may be easier. I was just pointing out that T.I. is across the Strip, and its not always convinient or possible to cross the Strip where you want. But in this case its not an issue because there is a pedestrian bridge right there.
If all you went is a bed and shower as close as possible as cheap as possible, go for Harrah's or one of the dives behind the convention center off the Strip for that matter. Harrah's is very plain compared to most other properties. _________________ Peter Potkay

A few of the guys here who are trying to book at the Venetian are being put on a waiting list for the Saturday 1st (the day many of us arrive).
Of course, this might just be a big warning light for IBMers; the tool might just be giving non-IBMers first call on the rooms... but if you're planning on staying at the Venetian then you might want to book soonish.
(FWIW I didn't get this warning - either I luckily snuck in under the wire, or the conference considers me far too important to lose out on a room ) |

All,
Las Vegas is such a fun city.
If money is tight then stay at Excalibur. Its like $36 per night.
Here's a great secret that most travellers to Las Vegas don't know. Parking is FREE. Valet parking at hotels is FREE (just tip the attendee $2 when he/she gets your car).
My family and I have stayed at most of the big name hotels in Vegas and we simply drive to where ever we want to go and use valet parking (although, at "our" hotel, I usually park in the free parking lot).
And for all those techie loving people, make sure you make a trip to Fry's Electronics when you are in Vegas. It is like heaven.
Regards,

Thanks for the Fry's advice Roger!
Andy, MGK and I had a WMB class trip there earlier, and were amazed at the size of the place. |
