Hi Everyone,
We have MQ5.3 CSD4 on HP-UX machine which we are planning to move to another hardware. The MQ filesystem /var/mqm is in Shared Drive so that will be moved as it is.and /opt/mqm and other filesystems will be taken backup and restored in the new server.

Could anyone advice me what are all the things ,I should take careof..

Thanks in advance!..

Regards,
Rohit

Yes...WMQ V5.3 is way out of support so you should think of upgrading; at least apply the latest maintenance (CSD14 I think).

Run the MS03 SupportPac to back up the queue manager objects just in case you have to do a rebuild of the queue manager.

Try and ensure the queue manager is 'empty', i.e. application queues do not contain any messages, just in case you have to rebuild the queue manager.

Plan to fail, then it will come as no surprise if it does

This is dangerous because the new server will not know that MQ is installed (ie. HP-UX s/w registration through the swinstall command), and it may not be possible to install any CSDs on top of that.

I recommend that you copy across /var/mqm to the new server and then do a fresh install of MQ 6.0.2.8 or MQ 7.0.1.0. At least you will then be on a version of MQ that IBM will actually support if you have any problems.

You also need to ensure the new server kernel parameters are configured to support WMQ and all the other software you've "installed". Plus adding & configuring the mqm user, the groups and all the other details the install script takes care of.

What about messages residing in queues just before the upgrade?

Then why not just install it? Why take the risk?

They accepted the risk that it may be impossible to install any MQ FixPacks on the system???

Business lines. You just have to love 'em.

One of the Dilbert cartoons recently was "As a technician I will explain this in words you can understand...the software no worky!"

Practice your "I told you so!" face. If you need any pointers on how to do so, PM Vitor
