It means that no client applications will be able to connect to the mainframe qmgrs.

CAF is a separately licensed z/OS feature, with a separate program number and $ charge.

No CAF, no WMQ client attaches.

... MQv7 comes with a free 5 client license version of CAF.

But in general one has to assume that "no CAF" means "no clients".

In z/OS, IBM is providing with MQ V7, FREE 5 (five) client connections to the SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN channel to be used by the MQ Explorer. In that way, those who do not use the Client Attach Feature (CAF) can still use the MQ Explorer.

I haven't had my hands on v7 for z/OS enough to test the limits of this.

Instead of removing CAF, make more use of it. Mainframes are a great place to connect MQ clients to. You get a reliable queue manager without the need for clustering. This saves buying MQ on distributed platforms.
