somehow I get the feeling by asking this question you have no clue what you are doing, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt...
MB and MQ are seperate products and need to be installed seperately,
when you get the MB media package it includes the MQ media aswell.
hope this helped... _________________ Michael

Michael...there are some newbies on this forum, and yes, some are VERY new, 100% why this forum is here....just answering the question without a "remark" about the skill level of the person asking the question" will actually work better in my opinion. _________________ If you do not know the answer or you get the urge to answer with "RTFM" or "Search better in this forum", please refrain from doing so, just move on to the next question. Much appreciated.

i like the question because broker cannot exist without MQ why not both provided as a single component? |

these are seperate products delivered by seperate groups, why interlock them? there simply is a dependency of WMB on WMQ. _________________ Michael

but in the past and on previous versions when the sale of WMB has been agreed and the discs arrive the installs for MQ and DB2 have been included
this may have been sorted by the IBM rep responsible for the client but there are normally discs included
with the latest version I have no idea _________________ Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard drive?

I have not seen 'discs' anymore since V5.0, I just download...
the download packages for WMB contain the packages for WMQ as well, so
I assume the discs if physically supplied are included too.
the question here is whether the install of the product is 'automagically' included... that is certiainly not the case and I also feel it shouldn't ... _________________ Michael

WMB bundles a copy of MQ; it's on the Windows/Linux DVD, and you get the MQ CD on other platforms.
They're two separate products, but there's a lot of similarity. The OS requirements are roughly equivalent and in v7, features like the MB Explorer, multi-instance brokers, pub/sub etc. mean that the the two products fit really nicely together.
They're also developed in the same place in Hursley. For instance, I have to walk past the MQ guys in order to go to the bathroom, a fact which I'm sure you'll all be fascinated to learn |

most management doesn't like as both are tightly coupled as other technologies are competing with us.
Our management planned to migrate to web methods and probably many to following the same path |

I'm sure you will encounter a whole heap of other problems when you migrate. One of these I expect will be performance. I have yet to find any 'appserver' type of solution that can process messages as fast as Broker. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

So how does 'integrating' the product into looking like 'one' product help?
I would think it would be more tightly coupled and would be more opposing,
may be I am missing something....

I am sure this was not caused by not having an integrated install procedure as suggested above... _________________ Michael

Why don't we build the broker run time to be independent of MQ, some clients may not like to use MQ or functional wise it may not fit into use it, in those cases you are forcing them to pay for it and wasting the resources. I think if it is built as a separate individual product having the meta data stored in file system......no guesses sorry |

that's completely different from how this thread started, it started as does MB include MQ

the MB product is a natural progressing for MQ customers wanting more functionality, although the product has grown with more and more interfaces I can not imagine a non-MQ shop looking at MB seriously (yes, maybe to fill their long/short list...)

hmm in V7 they got rid of the configmgr and dependency of a DB product for the basic functioning and started using MQ Pub/Sub in some form.
I don't see MB as a product never needing MQ, but then again if they can make it work without MQ, I don't think that because of THAT it will start conquering the world... _________________ Michael

If you think that having a WMQ less Broker will reduce its price then I suggest you think again.
The WMQ license you get with broker is restricted. i.e. It is for use with QMGRS that run Broker or the broker components(pre V7). You won't be paying for a full WMQ License in anyway shape or form.
If you really don't want WMQ then I humbly suggest you re-write all your flows as Java apps and use something like WAS etc.
Don't get me started on alternatives like MSMQ & Biztalk. They will end up costing you more than Broker. _________________ WMQ User since 1999
