Though WMB toolkit and WMQ Explorer are good visual tools to explore and model WMB/WMQ connections and configurations but for non technical team of the project like business partners, business analyst and others, it always helps to have core connections and configurations modelled in a general purposes modelling tool like Visio.
But the problem with Visio is that there is no predefined stencil for WMB/WMQ objects thus there is no consistent way to model WMB/WMQ. IBM provides a stencil under support pac (md08) but I did not find it very useful. Though it shows shapes for most WMQ objects on stencil, when you drag those on a diagram, most of the shapes are nothing but simple coloured boxes which can be achieved using flowchart stencil also.
So over past year or so, I tried to tackle this problem by defining a custom stencil for myself including shapes for main frequently used objects. I have been using it for some time now and I think it has attained a shape good enough to be shared with you all. The shapes have intuitive look and feel and double clicking on it opens a custom properties page where you can include information about key parameters of that object.
However, I could not find how to attach a file in a post so please pm me your email address and I will mail it to you directly.
Or if moderator can let me know some way of sharing a file, I will happy to post it for all.

Sounds useful.
Have sent my Email by PM, I would appreciate a copy - something to look at next week when I seem to be the only person planning to be at work!

Thanks Michael for you your suggestion. I have mailed a zip (including vss file, a sample diagram and a single page "how-to" document) to siteadmin.
I checked your solution and my attempt is nowhere near what you have produced. Mine is just a simple thing that I made to make my life easy. |

Got this message for admin, soon it should be available at samples forum:
Girish;
I have seen your email and file.
Will ask one of our web folks who is now away on holidays to add it to the samples forum on his return.
Thanks for submitting it.

Checked with the siteadmin again. They are saying it will be done soon. They are running short on staff due to weather conditions in UK |

That's indeed a good thing to share Girish. I'd like to use it when it's available on the site. _________________ Regards

Congratulations Girish, I hope people like your work.
there is also another template in the Presentation section MQConfigTemplate.ppt - Updated Powerpoint template you can use to visualize an MQSeries architecture.

If you want your Visio drawings to understand what you are trying to achieve and really take some of the burden away from you
(like writing scripts, verifying installed queues channels, reverse engineering what you have installed over the years and a lot more...) then for you it's time to look at MQArchitect... _________________ Michael
