hi,

Want to ask some question to all experts about WBI backup and recovery
My site using WBI 6.1 and oracle as their production env. for broker
environmrnt. I verify the daily backup job, for MQ part, the savemgr and
backup auth utility is used It is fine to all backup MQ object and related
authority. But for the WBI part. I find the jobs just backup the oracle
database and seems no any backup to all the WBI components, like
CM. broker, mqsi registry and broker UUID information. can just
backup the database enough to solve the folliwng peoblem

(1) solve WBI problem from restoring from backup
(2) solve WBI problem from recovering from disaster.

Ths

Wilson

Hi Wilson,

I would think that backing up your broker QM and broker database would be good enough. Along with this if you can note down your UUID of broker it would be benificial. However, the UUID will have to be noted only once as this will not change once the broker is created.
Similar it even goes for the broker QM and database (if they are not changing in your env than taking the backups everyday might be just too much) but yes taking backups on regular intervals is a good idea, speacially after a new deploy ro change in QM.

The other thing which would be great to do is keep the latest bar file that you have deployed. So in case recovering does not work. You can every well create a new broker and deploy your code and you should be good enough.

For most of the information on backups read the information center.
there is a section dedicated for Backing up and restoring resources.
Its under 'Administering the broker domain' section.

At the end you know your env the best, so take the best decision accordingly.

Regards,
Pats ...

Some random thoughts:

1) A broker is only as good as the message flows and related artefacts deployed to it; make sure that these are backed up (especially the source).
2) In V6.x a broker runtime configuration is made up of a database, queues, registry and filesystem:
The registry (/var/mqsi/registry) contains configurable service definitions and parameters you supply to mqsicreatebroker, so *should* be relatively easy to recover in the event of a failure.
Queues are used to store transient configuration, such as in-flight aggregations, which you may or may not care about.
The database contains the broker's deployed message flows and other configuration.
The filesystem contains any JAR files, UDN LILs and other message flow dependencies.
With this in mind, I reckon the database and filesystem are the more important parts of a broker's configuration for the purposes of backup.
3) In V6.X, don't forget the Config Manager. This is particularly important in V6.0 because the CM cannot synchronise its configuration with the running broker.
4) In V7.0 (as I'm sure you're aware) there is no CM and no system database. You also have mqsibackupbroker and mqsirestorebroker commands for backing up a broker for the purposes of disaster recovery.

Hope this helps
-Matt

Just one more info as part of above in 6.x there are command like mqsibackupconfigmgr and mqsirestoreconfigmgr to back up and restore configmgr.
