There is a new feature in Windows 7 called the PSR (Problem Step Recorder) |
Nice to see Microsoft getting with it at last.
I've been using a variety of shareware tools that do exactly that since Windows 95 or thereabouts. There are also FOSS tools available on Linux that do it there as well. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

You could always install another version of Windows alongside using something like VirtualBox from Sun/Oracle (which is free) |

Yeah, we could have some VMWare sessions running Windows XP stood up for WMB 6.1 development until everything is WMB 7.
But Windows 7 is not that new anymore, and WMB 6.1 will be around for a few more years. I have to think we're not the only ones that need / want this support.
Yes, I submitted the Requirements form already. And opened a PMR. _________________ Peter Potkay

I tried WMB 7.0.0.0 on Windows 7 and installations were succesfully but could not create the broker. Opened a PMR to IBM and they said that WMB 7002 and later versions will be the versions that will be supported on Windows 7. |

My 2p thoughts on this are:-
Toolkit
For V6.1
Use Vista or Linux if you can't remain on XP. Running XP in a VM is a nice solution especially if you have a decent CPU (eg Core i5 upwards or any quad core). I've found XP inside a VM on Linux to be far more stable than running it natively on the same HW (in this case, it is a Lenovo X61).
For V7
Use Windows (any flavour). I've been running 7.0.0.2 since the turn of the year on W7. You have to have the PRO (or higher) version. As the Laptop came with home premium, it cost almost the same to upgrade to Ultimate as it did to Pro.
Runtime
We tend to have two different runtime platforms.
The first is windows. Typically on the developers laptop/desktop. Easier to use the debugger here
The other is Unix/Linux. Our Production systems are Solaris but dev level containers are in short supply. So we have a Linux system running V6.1 & V7.0.0.2 for dev testing. This also has the toolkit installed so if needs be, we can easily use the debugger in local mode. (Corporate firewalls are a real bitch.) _________________ WMQ User since 1999
