Does WMB toolkit work on Windows 7? Has anyone experienced any issues?

Not enough info. There are too many flavors of Windows 7 you have to be more specific. (home, professional, ultimate...)

There are actually two questions
1) Does the toolkit work on Windows 7
2) If it does work, does IBM support it.
After all the issues I had with Vista (not all Websphere related) I gave up and bought a copy of Server 2003 off Ebay and run that on my laptop.
I'll leave others to answer the above questions.

if it does work, IBM does not support it (yet),
otherwise it would be in the system requirements list and Kiran probably would not have asked the question...

I am running Toolkit 6.1.0.5 on Windows 7 Professional and have not had any issues. I will be installing WMB 7.0 next week.
Even though Windows 7 is not on the System Requirements page, I took a leap of faith that if it worked on Vista, it would work on Windows 7. |

I was planning to use 6.1.0.5 and was not sure about Windows 7 professional so thanks Mercator for confirming. I can now take my leap of faith and buy a new Laptop with Windows 7 professional.

Just realised one more thing. I am thinking of going for 64bit version. Does 32bit or 64 bit make any difference? Mercator did you use 64 bit?

Before you take your leap, make sure you think about IBM support. If in fact, Windows 7 is not yet officially supported, you probably will not be able to get much help if you run in to problems. I do not need my environment to be supported since I have other broker environments for production requirements. My Windows 7 installation is for my own personal purposes. |

Yes I know its not yet officially supported. But I think it should be on the support list soon so I can take that chance. I verified from IBM support pages that it did support Windows vista 64 bit version so probably windows 7 64 bit might be ok.

Probably, but given the structural differences between Vista & Win7 there's a sporting chance it won't.
And that "probably" is the root of the comment about IBM supporting the platform. If you feel you can manage on an unsupported platform for as long as it take IBM to certify Win7 then go you!
I'd be interested in your experiences, so please post how you get on.

Yes I know I am taking a chance given that there are big differences between vista and Win 7. Win 7 got some good reviews compared to Vista so I am betting on that for IBM to support it. But at least I am not the first one to try so it gives me some comfort. I am just trying to take advantage of the Holiday season to get some good deal  while making sure it serves the purpose.

One additional note that may be of use to someone on Windows 7. There is a new feature in Windows 7 called the PSR (Problem Step Recorder). I guess its purpose was to provide a way to document the steps a user took to create a problem for use by tech support. It records mouse clicks, automatically generates screen grabs, etc. The end result is a nicely formated HTML reprt. I see that it could be a valuable tool for PMRs.
I've also found that it is a very good tool to use for creating broker training documentation. |
