I have two win2k MQServer sitting in two side of the firewall. They need to communitcate to each other. But one of the firewall rule I have to follow is the initiator had to be inside the firewall. How can I send message for outside to the inside, how should I config both server, as from my understanding, the sender had to initiate the session anyway, any help would be appreciated.

The MQSeries MA86 support pack presentation should provide some basic guidance:
http://www-4.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/txppacs/ma86.html
To summarise:
MQSeries works just like many other TCP/IP conversational applications, the MQSeries MCA (Message Channel Agent) at the relevant hosts controls interaction between the application and TCP/IP.
The sender selects a port at random (well - not entirely random!) to send from and the receiver listens on a fixed port. The receiving application initiates a response conversion using it's defined local port and the remote port from which the initial conversation was initiated. The firewall which communication needs to pass through must account for both hosts initiating communication.
I beleive that the MQTCPSDRPORT environmental variable can be used to control which port conversation is initiated from, however I cannot find any documentation for this in the manuals.
Hope this is of some help! The support pack runs over a number of examples.

Ray,
If you can't initiate a TCP session from outside the firewall, but need to send messages from there, consider using a requester/server pair of channels instead of the usual sender/receiver. See the description under "distributed queuing components" in the book MQSeries Intercommunication.

I would also carefully look at the MS81 SupportPac which deals directly with tunneling MQ traffic through firewalls. This is a "Product Extension" component to MQ and formally/fully supported. |

Excuse me for asking, what has this to do with Websphere MQ or any of its associated products? _________________ WMQ User since 1999

Every time you reinvent the wheel the more square it gets (anon). If in doubt think and investigate before you ask silly questions. |

A question for your network/firewall admins. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

As for MA86, I'm not sure whether it has been withdrawn... _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |
