Hi all,

We are defining our listeners as a service. So, I guess there is no need to specify Adopt NewMCA any longer. Correct?

Thanks,
MRule

Now why would you think that. AFAIK one has nothing to do with the other...

Well, the manual says:

Quote:
If WebSphere MQ receives a request to start a channel, but finds that an amqcrsta process already exists for the same channel, the existing process must be stopped before the new one can start. The AdoptNewMCA attribute allows you to control the ending of an existing process and the startup of a new one for a specified channel type.

So, when the listenr is defined/started as a service amqcrsta process is out of the picture. So what happens in this case if the RCVR channel is already running? Would AdopNwMCAstill cause the channel to be stopped before a new one can start? In other words, do we need this Paramater set regardless of how the listner is started

Your decision to use AdoptNewMCA should be made irrespective of how the listener is started.

I always use AdoptNewMCA.

Look at the WMQ Intercommunications manual. Search for adopt. The section on adoptmca will explain how this works for a receiver channel.

bruce2359: Looks like you haven't read my previous response. I do know from the manual how this parameter works. The confusion was the listner being started as a "process" as opposed to "service"....

Thanks.

Was there anything in your reading that made you to believe that there was a difference?

Bruce: I suggest you read the manual to see whether or not there is a difference between starting a listener with inetd (or amqcrsta) or as a service within QM.... You are implying that there is no difference. How do you reach that conclusion yourself?

Regards,
MR

Adopt MCA is about receiver channels, not about listeners. There is a presumption that a listener exists, whether it is a service or not. No listener, no (functional) channel.

The narrative in the Intercom manual describes what WMQ will do when a receiver channel becomes orphaned due to death of the MCA.
