We are attempting a silent install using the following command but the server components get installed anyway.

M:\> msiexec /i "\\BOSMGSPRD\pkgdepot$\MQ-
Support\MQv7WindowsClient\MSI\IBM WebSphere MQ.msi" USEINI="
\\BOSMGSPRD\pkgdepot$\MQ-Support\MQv7WindowsClient\responses.ini" /l*v
c:\mqv7_install.log /q

and response file of:

[Response]
PGMFOLDER="C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ"
DATFOLDER="C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ"
LOGFOLDER="C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\log"
ADDLOCAL="Explorer,Client,XA_Client,FTA_Client,JavaMsg,XA_Java,Toolkit"
REMOVE="Server,FTA_Server"
AGREETOLICENSE="yes"
USERCHOICE="0"
LAUNCHWIZ="no"

Anyone know of a way to correct this so JUST the select client pieces get installed?

Presumably one of the components you are installing has a dependency on the Server component.

I'd pare your list down to just the "client" component, and work your way up to the full list and see when the server component gets added.

Oh, and at a guess, the most likely candidate is the Explorer.

There is more than one reason the standalone explorer package ships as a SupportPac.

Can you try with these options...

ADDLOCAL="Explorer,Client,JavaMsg,Toolkit"
REMOVE="Server"
