I need to alter the host names in a cluster environment. Can anyone give me the steps to follow? Do I need to suspend the qm's from the cluster, if so,..the order of suspension..PR or FR ? Do i need to use refresh cluster in the process? The applications are using the MQ so all the message flows should be stopped first, right? |

This has been discussed here many, many times. Use the Search button above. Search for cluster conname. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

The cluster manual , the board and ultimately a dose of common sense will lead you to serenity _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Ponder this: if you change hostnames while applications are running, what will be the consequence? Think failure.
The WMQ Clusters manual suggests how to change (ALTER) cluster object attributes. Channels (cluster or non-) require that the channel be stopped (or inactive), and then restarted, for important changes to take effect.
Did you search this site for others that have asked the exact same question - as recently as last week? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

If only the host name changes, and you are using strict IP Addresses in your CONNAME's, there should be no requirement to change anything in the queue manager cluster. If, on the other hand, you are using DNS names then all that has been stated before is apposite. If you have to change the CONNAME's, start with the FR's first, then the PR's. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Changing the CONNAME of channels in clusters is one of those wonderful "features" of MQ.
The best approach is to take the channel out of the cluster, make the CONNAME change and then put the channel back into the cluster.
Maybe one day it will be possible to just alter the conname for a channel that is in a cluster ...
(one to add to the wish list) |

It is entirely possible now.
It just takes significantly longer to take affect across the entire cluster than most people are willing to wait for. |

Very true; even with a tiny cluster, it took longer than my patience threshold. |
