Connectivity for service oriented architecture (SOA): extended publish and subscribe capability better integrated with WebSphere MQ, new nodes for Web 2.0, interoperability, message sequencing, and enhanced adapter nodes for SAP Software, Siebel Business Applications, and PeopleSoft Enterprise
Dynamic operational facilities for auditing, monitoring, and understanding Message Broker behavior and interactions with other products
Connectivity with WebSphere Process Server via new nodes and WebSphere Business Monitor through a new event-generation mechanism Service Component Architecture (SCA)
Exploitation of WebSphere MQ multi-instance queue managers for High Availability
Industry samples for TLOG retail support and Healthcare, including HL7 Minimal Lower Layer Protocol (MLLP)

Queue job adverts demanding 2 years V7.0 mandatory.
Seriously, from the announcement it looks like a big step forward.
I was going to redo my certs on 6.1 but now I think I'll wait for the V7 certifications to appear about this time next year. _________________ WMQ User since 1999

I hope you like this new release. It should be tons easier to develop for (e.g. the patterns support, sequencing, SCA), and tons easier to manage (e.g. no CM or database, software HA, Broker Explorer).
I know the dev team are really happy with the result. The feeling is that it's our most significant release to date... and how the product should have always been.
If anyone has any questions on what's coming I (or I'm sure, others in the know) will be happy to answer them here or via PM. As MGK said, we'll also be covering the release in painstaking detail at the forthcoming conferences, including GSE and T&M.
Enjoy!

To paraphrase some quotation or other:
A product is complete when there is no more that can be taken away, rather than when there is no more that can be added.
All in favour of simplification, I hope the bug count is low - but we will probably wait for 7.0.1 before trying it out.
Does DB/2 still ship with the WMB product? |

You have never been licensed to use the DB2 that ships with Broker for anything other than the Broker database.
There is no Broker database anymore.
I'd be *shocked* if DB2 still shipped with the product. |

But you're not shocked by anything Jeff?
WMB v7 doesn't ship with a database.
Regarding bug counts, it's rather too early to say as we haven't built the final GA driver yet - but the quality is looking excellent so far. We've been in Alpha since January, and beta since June, and this has given us ages to drive down defects.
Also, this release we moved away from a largely waterfall-based development model to one that involves "the A-word". This has meant, among other things, that we've not started anything new until previous work's been fully tested and all defects fixed. It's meant that we haven't had (as you often get with waterfall) a squeeze on testing at the end, and has led to a consistently low defect backlog throughout the development cycle.
(And as ever, consider this to be my own thoughts, and not IBM's official response ) |

Maybe an obvious assupmtion, but when we migrate from WMB 6.1 to WMB 7.0, once we are happy with the migration and won't be rolling back we can just stop DB2 and uninstall it? And my Config Manager servers (we run the CMs on seperate servers) can just be shut down and decomissioned? _________________ Peter Potkay

@Peter.
that should work the way I read it,
but before you migrate the broker,
you need to upgrade to WebSphere MQ to V7.0.1,
as it appears to be required for the Broker product (If I read the requirements correctly...) _________________ Michael

Yes.
Examine the definition of the SELTYPE parameter that is new in MQ v7.0.1. |

For my current project I'm interested about changes for SOAP, WS-*, are there new goodies ?
And of course, a sneak preview of below URL would be welcome

Yes, that's correct. You can uninstall DB2 when you've migrated, of course only if you're not using database nodes that require it.
The CM server can also be decommissioned when you've migrated. All applications (including the toolkit, commandline and other CMP applications) can remotely work directly with the broker using IP address/port/qmgr parameters. |

You now have the ability to set up inbound/outbound SCA over web services bindings, and the ability to easily generate web services related solutions in the new WMB Patterns Explorer.
Most of the other web services changes you'll have seen in other guises if you've used, for example the IS02 or IE01 supportpacs. For example, the DataPower offload of WS-Security, which is now in the V7 Broker Explorer... or the external Tomcat support (though we got a preview of this in v6.1.0.3).
Cheers
