Hi,
This may be a dumb question, but is it OK to post information provided by IBM in response to a PMR?
I posted a topic in the forum a while ago, and also raised a PMR requesting clarification from IBM. IBM have now come back with an explanation, that I'd like to post, as I think it will help anyone who has similar problems.
I don't think that the info is sensitive, it's just a clarification of how the Message Broker interacts with Oracle and the odbc driver. I'm just slightly wary of unwittingly breaking a confidentiality agreement.
Can anyone advise please?

Fair point, I suppose if I want a definitive positive answer on this then that's what I'll have to do.
Was hoping someone here might be able to offer some guidance though. I know for instance if I'd said I'd recently been on a beta workshop and asked whether I can post about the new features, plenty of people would be able to say - no, you signed a confidentiality agreement. Similarly for certification/sample questions, the forum has a pretty clear policy. Just wondered if there was a stated policy for information from PMRs (I did search the forum and couldn't find one). |

Sure ... although I wouldn't hold your breath, given that I waited over 3 weeks for the initial response, and I've already asked 1 follow-up question.

We pay a lot of money so that I can open PMRs. I figure the knowledge that I gain belongs to my organization. Because I work for the government, most everything I do is a matter of public record and subject to Open Records legislation.
IBM may surely have a different view, of course.....  |

PMRs can contain commercially sensitive information about customer's systems and internal details and vulnerabilities of IBM products. They are a private conversation and I very much doubt that IBM or the customer's legal people would allow any extracts to be published in an open forum!

I have never posted sensitive information.
But I did post, for example, when an APAR was created to correct a disconnect issue with the stop channel command, such APAR having been created due to a PMR I submitted. And later, I posted when the fix became available in a fix pack.
How could spreading the word about an APAR and a fix be a bad thing for IBM? |

This is pretty much the conclusion I've come to. Although in this instance, I don't think there's anything sensitive involved, there could be, so I can't really post it.
Also agree with SAFraser on APARs and fixpacks, plenty of people share that type of information on the forum, and I don't think IBM would complain about that.

Once an APAR has been created it becomes the formal report of the problem and information about it will generally be published on the IBM web site for all to share, but it won't refer to particular customers. Information about security and integrity vulnerabilities is published on the IBM X-force web site http://xforce.iss.net/
