Hi All,
I am running WMB 6 on a windows 2003 dual core, 2 CPU server. This is currently using full capacity licensing which is turning out to be rather expensive. What is the best way to license this product on the server to be more cost effective? Sub capacity licensing but how? |

Speak to your friendly IBM sales rep, the only reliable source of licensing info. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Hi mrfridaynight,
You only have this one server or you've another on active-active or active-passive ?
Plus this is a windows box, so it could be a 50 PVU on each core, which is why you must be using a 2 CPU.
Anyway, options can be determined only after sizing your requirements.
If you are an IBMer you should be able to do the sizing on w3, else do as Vitor suggested.

Even as an IMBer you should defer to the account's IBM sales rep when it comes to licensing questions. You never know what the specifics of deal that was worked out. _________________ Peter Potkay

Hi PeterPotkay,
Well I offered assistance coz I am a WebSphere Pre-Sales guy...
But ofcourse, I'm not offering anything on paper...the sizing is free for you to try out (on w3), for anything else you'll still need to contact your region's sales rep.

Hi all,

Too risky...we don't know the PVU of the cores...I would assume IBM recommended 2 CPUs based on customer requirement sizing, ESPECIALLY since Windows boxes usually come in 50 PVU cores.
Check this link out...you'll know your current PVU capacity.
Processor Value Unit [PVU] licensing for Distributed Software
I would personally prefer moving to Unix as it would give me options of cores with 80/100/120 PVU, plus a CPU utilization of 70-80%...which on Win is recommended to be 60%.

I'd just move things to a smaller box.
And then get hit with capacity problems in six months because of "unexpected" growth. |
