Hi All
We are trying to cluster MQ 6 on two Windows Server 2008 machines using Failover Cluster Management and after many hours we think we are nearly at the end.
It seems as though there is a permission error somewhere..
I've been sitting with the Network Admin for two days now, and I need your help... PLEASE!

I personally think its an update that needs to be downloaded, even though the servers are both fully licensed and fully updated..
Previously, the hamvmqm utility wouldnt run unless we ran it under 2003 compatibility.. 2008 just wouldnt hear of it.
So it kind of gets me thinking that perhaps there is something else that conflicts with 2008 and the permissions. rhs.exe to be more specific.
If theres anything else you need me to post here, just shout and ill post!

We did check online, googled everything we could find.. except one thing obviously .
This what they say about that probe ID:
Resolving the problem
The FDC's produced are harmless and can be ignored.
This in fixed by APAR IC46301 which is included in:
WebSphere® MQ V5.3 Fix Pack 12
WebSphere® MQ V6.0 Refresh Pack V6.0.1.
And if you see the FDC extract, the MQ version is ::
LVLS :- 6.0.2.3 |
Does 6.0.2.3 install all previous fixes? Or do you have to install each fix pack indivdually?
Or, would i need 6.0.2.7... In order for us to get this update we need to register with IBM.. and its going to take time for management to approve this. |

The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'INTMQCLCOMMSRV' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

I'd also like to know, if possible, which resource i should be adding to the Failover Cluster Management?
We have the shared disks, the hamvmqm ran successfully and the IP has been assigned..
We then added a Generic Service using AMQSVC, but I dont think thats right..
Im not sure how to explain this, Id do better having you ask me what other information you might need..
Eagerly awaiting your responses .. ( i know its a Sunday, so its not likely..)

Thank you Peter... Your links and help is far beyond what i expected!!
Man, you just saved us months of pain.. I do feel somewhat stupid though, for not checking the compatibility first.. Thanks for your assistance with this!

We got 6.0.2.3 from "Company X"
They are licensed and we do support for them on their "Online Service"... since then company standings havent been the best, and asking them for 6.0.2.7 wasnt an option.

To be honest, Im new to this clustering business, this being my first attempt (FAIL)... But yes, the Network Admin pretty much said its the same.. according to how i understood him.
I now have two options::
1. Get the company to buy licensing for MQ7 and then install, refresh (pack), and then try cluster...
2. Downgrade from 2008 to 2003 and MSCS cluster MQ6.
Are there any foreseeable problems with downgrading the OS?
Purchasing the license and downloading the software is going to take time, and that we dont have.

If you've a valid v6 license this covers v7, in the same way a v5.3 license covers the upgrade to v6. Speak to whoever manages the IBM relationship to obtain media.

Aside from losing all the advantages Win2008 offers over Win2003, you'll then be on back levels of everything. Using Win2008 & v7 puts you up to date.

In one client location i have seen that they had to pay for V6, while they were upgrading from V5.3.
So does upgrading/licensing have to do with kind of deal IBM and client has or is it same for all clients of IBM?.
I should probably ask some IBM sales for this , but mqseries.net is more accessible

So we've decided to down our servers OS to 2003.
Its more stable, according to the gents here..
I know its old, but its a temporary solution while we wait to sign up with IBM.
Once we've registered and IBM's happy with us, then we'll move the servers back to 2008.
Its a bit of a round about, but im not calling the shots!
Thank you very much for you help guys!!
Without your guidance i might still have been trying to cluster on 2008.
