Bottom line I want to avoid a new forum with duplicate posts. |
Hence my suggestion of moving useful threads into the FAQ |
Or moved (not copied) to a new Forum. Just because a thread is good doesn't mean its been Frequently asked. _________________ Peter Potkay

The value of a post is far too subjective. Is a v5.3 post more or less valuable than a 7.0 post? Is an SSL post more or less valuable than a post about triggering?
I believe this site is valuable in its entirety, not just for some subset or category of its posts. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Any project must begin with a project statement that answers question like: What is the outcome we want? And why? Wouldn't it be nice if __________. What is the anticipated benefit? How will we determine if the benefit is achieved?
Replace existing doc?
Provide a search engine?
Categorize posts by _____? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Hi all;
as requested by Vitor, we have had a look at things, re-read all threads entries, also had a re-look at options relating to members ranking threads in some way (like giving it n stars … ).
- yes that we can do some basic ratings scheme but can not apply nor enforce a uniform and unbiased rating system, plus there will no easy way to perform extended search/filtering (such as: let's see threads that have been ranked 5 or more stars by 10 or more individuals …).
- we agree with Vitor that using the FAQ forum is an ok alternative by moving worthwhile threads there (How Tos or otherwise). The move can be done fairly easily by moderators who can judge threads on their own, or one of them PMs/Emails me and we do that. Changing subject fields and adding of keywords to top of such threads to bring about better search results can also easily be done.
Cheers;

Some keyword consistency in the subject field would be a delight.
Good keyword example: RC2033, wmq7.0, channel
Bad keyword example: Help! or HELP!!!!!
Can we prompt with a listbox of predefined keywords that MOST apply, like versions, platforms? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

no easy way to do it, would require to extensively modify the current php base code to have a pop-up listing choices for platforms, OSs, versions, etc. . The option remains to have moderators Edit/change the thread's Subject before moving things to FAQ. |

Has anybody checked out www.stackoverflow.com
The kind of Q&A system they have is good..
The good posts come up to the top and the bad ones go down.
Please consider making mqseries.net similar to stackoverflow.com
