We are currently running MQ version 6 on windows and zos. We use the MQ pub sub broker that comes with MQ 6. I was experimenting with creating a durable subscriber queue (SYSTEM.JMS.D.GARY.SUBQ), which is an alias for a Local queue named XY.TEST.LQ. Now I create a subscription to the topic and have it put the messages to SYSTEM.JMS.D.GARY.SUBQ. This works fine and my message shows up on XY.TEST.LQ. Now I figured I would see what happens when I change the alias SYSTEM.JMS.D.GARY.SUBQ to point to a REMOTE Queue. When I publish a message, the message gets routed to the other queue manager (ZOS). Now what is strange is I can see it on the other queue manager and even browse the message several times. However eventually it disappears and I didn't get the message off the queue. Even the queue stats don't show anything being taken off the queue. Now if I publish another message, but make it RETAINED, then the message shows up on the remote queue manager and stays indefinitely. Why does a NON-retained message show up and be browsable, but then just disappear? I know the remote queue manager is a ZOS queue manager which knows nothing about PUB SUB, since it is V6. So why would the queue manager remove the message at all on its own? Can anyone explain this behavior.

I started this testing because someone asked what would happen if I publish to a REMOTE queue. We only have 1 windows MQ broker but they want to send to other queue managers that don't have brokers.
