What are the benefits of installing a 64 bit version of queue manager?

Info center says
Quote:
With the queue manager becoming 64-bit for some distributed platforms, it removes many of the 32-bit addressing imitations. It gives a large increase to the amount of memory available for applications and WebSphere MQ.
I am not able to understand much from these generic statements.Sorry for my ignorance.

1. What are 32 bit addressing limitations?
2.What is the meaning of increase of memory to MQ and how is it useful?

Could someone help to brief me on the above.

I'd suggest that you do a Google search on 32-bit vs 64-bit and begin reading.

WMQ is a collection of programs that, like all other programs, must be in RAM (along with the application data) in order to work. If there is not enough RAM, the o/s will page/swap portions of the program(s) to disk. Paging/swapping takes I/O, and slows down the throughput of the program.

If you have 64-bit architecture then ask your site admin how they justified it; these will broadly be the same justifications you're looking for.

You also have the option of ignoring the 64 bit OS and using the 32-bit version you're used to. It will work. But I'd stand back a bit when you tell the admin that's what you're intending......

Looks like you're reaching a bit there and making the assumption that his platform is Windows.../Linux_86 with 64/32 bit chip... where he might have a choice...

All other platforms at V6 /V7 are 64 bit AFAIK...
The last 32 bit MQ version on AIX was 5.3 IIRC...
